Field trip of UTC Students at ADCo’ Hai Phong Depot

Following the success of previous field trips, on 24thOctober 2023, ADCo welcomed 30 students, Faculty of Engineering, University of Transport and Communications (UTC) to visit Hai Phong Depot. This is a useful activity, equipping the students with knowledge and practical experiencethat helps them gain a deeper understanding of asphalt materials and asphalt products such as Polymer Modified Bitumen, emulsion… as well as future career development directions.

At the beginning of the visit, Mr. Le The Nhu, Chief Operating Officer of Hai Phong Depot, gave an overview of the depot and safety regulations, starting with the simplest thing, which is the use of reflective jackets and safety helmets.

After that, UTC students continued to visit depot laboratory (certified unit LAS-XD 173) and were introduced laboratory’s modern equipment and machinery used to measure and control bitumen and emulsion quality, especially the advanced DSR equipment (Dynamic Shear Rheometer) to classify bitumen according to PG (Performance Grade) specified in TCVN 13049:2020. At the laboratory, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tu, technical expert of ADCo showed the young students different characteristics between pure bitumen, polymer modified bitumen (Colflex® PMB) and asphalt emulsion, which applied to various purposes (EcoPrime® for prime coat, EcoStab® for recycling technology, EcoGrip® for Microsurfacing technology, …), through intuitive and specific experiments.

The most practical activity on the trip was that the students observed the bitumen tanks, production lines of PMB & emulsion and be explained the production and quality control of high-quality products of ADCo which can meet Specifications & Customers’ requirements. The dedication of the Depot staff and the eagerness to learn from the students made the visit more exciting.

The field trip ended successfully and was highly appreciated by the University of Transport and Communications. Looking to the future, ADCo would like to have more connecting activities with students to help them understand work practices and develop necessary skills and knowledge in learning time at the University.
