On June 6th 2023, Asphalt Distribution Company Limited (ADCo) cooperated with The University of Da Nang – University of Science and Technology (UD-DUT) and Da Nang Bridge and Road Association to hold the seminar "Asphalt Solutions for Road Maintenance” at Novotel Hotel, Da Nang City.

Attending the seminar, the Organizing Committee was honored to welcome the representatives of Ministry of Transport, Vietnam Road Department, Regional Management Unit No.3, and representatives of local Departments of Transport, the Project Management Units, Consulting companies and contractors, close customers of ADCo; the experts, doctoral professors of Faculty of Construction, Bridge and Road at the University of Transport and Communications (UTC), The University of Da Nang – University of Science and Technology (UD-DUT).

In the opening remarks, Mr. Cao Duong Tung, Deputy General Director of ADCo stated the goal of the Seminar was to contribute to the wider application with better results of new technology solutions and improve the efficiency of road construction, reparation, and maintenance.

Mr. Le Manh Thang, Deputy Director of  Vietnam Road Department also clarified the challenges of road maintenance in Vietnam. He would like to discuss this problem with experts, researchers, and construction companies presented in the seminar, and in the meantime, find useful and practical solutions for future projects.

The first topic presented at the seminar was "Preventive maintenance", whereby, Mr. Le Ngoc Hung, ADCo’s Technical and Development Manager, introduced Microsurfacing technology using EcoGrip® emulsion and Chip seals technology with emulsion CRS-2, CRS-2P. Applying Microsurfacing at the right time (no structural damage) to improve skid resistance, waterproofing, protect underneath layers can significantly extend the life of pavement at minimum costs.

Also, at the seminar, Mr. Christophe Duboscq, Regional Technical Manager of TIPCO, introduced the Cold-in place Recycling technique using EcoStab® emulsion. This technology rehabilitates the old pavement that shows fatigue cracks, and significant deformation (rutting), and provides a new life to the road. The pavement is deeply reclaimed on site using a specific reclaiming machine, then, the reclaimed materials are remixed together with water, emulsion, and other additives. Cold-in place recycling helps to save costs and reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions with fast application. In which, EcoStab® emulsion is an engineered emulsion compliant with standards for Cold-in place recycled material layer for road pavement.

The seminar also shared knowledge and discussion on "The situation of using asphalt in Vietnam and performance-graded specification for bitumen" under the presentation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Phuc, Dean of the Road Department at the University of Transport and Communications. In the next sessions, ADCo proposed sustainable solutions for high-performance pavement using KBC 40/50 bitumen and Polymer Modified Bitumen (Colflex® PMB)” under Mr. Le Ngoc Hung's presentation. The advantages of KBC 40/50 bitumen are higher rutting resistance, and increasing stiffness modulus that brings high durability pavement with cost efficiency. Hot mix asphalt using Colflex® PMB has great elasticity, high workability, significant improvement of rutting resistance, and overall mechanical performance to allow maintenance cost savings over the service life of the pavement.
