Fog Seals
The Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association (AEMA) defines a fog seal as “a light spray application of low viscosity asphalt emulsion used primarily to seal an existing asphalt surface to reduce raveling and enrich dry and weathered surfaces”. Fog seals are used on both low- and high-volume roads. Its primary use on high-volume roads is to prevent raveling of open-graded friction courses and to delineate between the mainline and the shoulder.
